COACH PETER HAPPY WITH MDC TEAM'S WORK ETHIC
20 April 2021
The Maritzburg United Multichoice Diski (MDC) continue to make impressive strides at start of the new season.
Last weekend, Peter Petersen's side put up an impressive performance by beating the Golden Arrows Reserves 5-3 at the Sugar Ray Xulu Stadium in Cleremont.
It was a second successive win at the start of the season for United's MDC campaign, following a 4-2 triumph over Chippa United the previous weekend.
And so while MDC head coach Petersen is pleased with several aspects of his team's play, the former defender also spoke of the need to tighten up at the back.
"It's a good confidence booster for the team, I think they worked hard in the last two games," he said.
"Yes, we scored some goals, but we also conceded. Which is an area I feel we really need to work on. It comes down more to individual errors, but it's something definitely that we'll fix."
Included in United’s five goals against Arrows was a hat-trick from Asanda Buthelezi, who also netted a brace against Chippa.
Petersen, who spent seven years of his career playing at the Team of Choice, is excited about the energy and commitment his charges are showing. And he is looking forward to a busy fixture period which includes games against Stellenbosch FC and AmaZulu, on Saturday 24 and Tuesday 27 April.
"We've got a good group of young boys who are eager to learn and improve, and then the sky is the limit, they've really come to the party. And they really push one another, hard in training and in matches.
"We will take into consideration the PSL fixtures as well," Petersen explained. "So a lot of guidance will come from the head coach depending on who he has available for us. We'll take it one game at a time.”
