MIXED EMOTIONS FOR PETERSEN AFTER MARITZBURG DRAW WITH STELLENBOSCH
26 April 2021
For the neutral it was a thrilling game, but for Maritzburg United's MDC coach Peter Petersen, there was an element of frustration after his side's 3-3 draw with Stellenbosch 's reserve side at Hammarsdale on Saturday.
On the positive side, the Team of Choice showed great character to come back from 3-0 down at the Mpumalanga Stadium.
Keletso Sifama got the first goal, while Ashley Wyngaard came off the bench to set up the second goal for Thobeka Zondi before scoring the equalizer himself.
Coach Peter though felt his team should have claimed the maximum points.
"A game of mistakes. I could say school boy errors, but they all all school boys, most of them," he told MUFC media.
"But let's just hope that they learn from this and they grow from this and that they get ready to take the next step. Overall the comeback was good, we could have taken all three points with the chances we had, but we never wrapped it up.
"But the effort levels were good, they really worked their socks to come back into the game."
Petersen was especially pleased with the guts his boys showed to get a point from the match after having fallen behind in the first half.
"That's what we want - a good sign - the desire to get back into the game. And they really worked, I think they deserved a bit more.”
The draw means the Maritzburg MDC side have seven points from their opening three games.
Next up is a KZN derby versus AmaZulu at the Harry Gwala Stadium on Tuesday
27 April.
