KUTU STRIKES AGAIN AS UNITED LEAVE IT LATE
27 April 2021

Maritzburg United will return from Cape Town with a maximum point haul after beating Stellenbosch 1-0 at the Danie Craven Stadium on Tuesday afternoon.
The only goal of the DStv Premiership match was scored by Thabiso Kutumela from the penalty spot in the 92nd minute as the Bafana Bafana striker took his league tally to 11.
The home side had enjoyed the better of the first half exchanges, but missed several good chances to score.
Their best opportunity of the opening stanza fell to Ashley du Preez on 17 minutes, but from close range he headed over the bar.
Jaydon Adams also missed a good chance, although as the first half progressed, Maritzburg started to ask more questions of the Stellenbosch defence.
And six minutes before the interval, Travis Graham was close to scoring when he arrived at the back post to try and get on the end of a Clayton Daniels header.
At the other end of the pitch, Team of Choice keeper Marcel Engelhardt did very well to come off his line quickly and block a goal-bound du Preez.
Most of the second half was cagey, with less chances on goal as neither side were able to get a hold of the game.
As the match went into the final 10 minutes, Stellenbosch upped the pressure and it took a couple of last gasp challengers from the likes of Daniels and Dan Morgan to keep the Cape side at bay.

It looked as it the game was heading to a draw until the 91st minute when Kutumela broke into the box and took a shot which was ruled to have been handled by a defender and a penalty was awarded.
The skipper stepped up to take the spot kick himself and bravely held his nerve to give Maritzburg a vital three points.
