TEAM OF CHOICE DO BATTLE WITH THE BIRDS

Maritzburg United's busy recent schedule continues when we host Swallows FC at the Harry Gwala Stadium on Friday evening, with kick off scheduled for 5pm in the KwaZulu-Natal Capital City.
The Team of Choice are heading into the game on the back of an away victory down in the Cape where we edged out Stellenbosch FC 1-0, thanks to an added time penalty by the in-form skipper, Thabiso Kutumela.
Swallows meanwhile were in action on Tuesday as well - they drew 1-1 with SuperSport United at the Dobsonsville Stadium.
With Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila
and Chippa United, the two sides directly under Maritzburg, also winning this week, there is very little breathing space, making Friday evening's clash a must-win encounter for coach Ernst Middendorp and his men.
In the first round encounter between the two sides, played at Dobsonville, the Birds won 2-0 with Ruzaigh Gamildien getting both goals.
In terms of recent results, Maritzburg have won three, drawn one and lost one of our last five games. In that same frame, Swallows have drawn four and won one. They occupy fifth spot, nine points off leaders Mamelodi Sundowns.
Historically, the Team of Choice has played Swallows on 21 occasions, winning six, losing 12 and drawing three.
