MARITZBURG HEAD TO LIMPOPO FOR CRUNCH TTM SHOWDOWN
14 May 2021
A crucial three DStv Premiership points are up for grabs on Saturday afternoon at the Peter Mokaba Stadium where Maritzburg United take on Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila.
Despite losing 1-0 to SuperSport United in midweek, the Limpopo side have been in good form of late - they beat Chippa united 1-0 to win the Nedbank Cup final and also recorded league wins over Kaizer Chiefs and Bloemfontein Celtic.
The Team of Choice meanwhile approach Saturday's game on the back of a thrilling 3-2 win over Golden Arrows at the Harry Gwala Stadium on Wednesday, having claimed only a point from the previous two matches.
"There was good fighting spirit from the team. Each and everybody [as individuals] and as a unit," Maritzburg head coach Ernst Middendorp commented.
"At this stage it's not probably about nice soccer, it's about winning the game. That was our target, our purpose of the game, and we have done that.
"It helps definitely to position ourselves a little more with confidence into this direction that we are competitive too."
While Maritzburg have moved up to 12th spot on the table with 28 points, they are still only three points above TTM, who are 15th.
In the first round encounter in KwaZulu-Natal, Tshakhuma recorded a 1-0 win. Last season the Team of Choice beat TTM both home and away in the promotion-relegation play-offs.
