NDENGANE: I'M UP FOR THE CHALLENGE
30 July 2021

Newly-signed Maritzburg United defender Alfred Ndengane plans to make his time in the KzwaZulu-Natal Capital City count.

The tough-tackling central defender takes no prisoners at the back and will bring additional steel to the United rearguard.

Prior to playing for Orlando Pirates and later TTM, the Cape Town-born Ndengane was a relative late-comer to the PSL - he first made his name at National First Division side FC Cape Town. It was from there that his big chance came - at Bloemfontein Celtic, under the mentorship of Ernst Middendorp, the current Maritzburg United head coach.

"It’s a new challenge and I’m up for it. I was welcomed back by the coach Ernst Middendorp, who I used to play for at Bloemfontein Celtic," Ndengane said of his arrival in Pietermaritzburg.

“It shows that he still believes in me, and he is the one who gave me the opportunity to play in the PSL, we have a good relationship.”

As a senior statesmen, Ndengane's influence will go beyond just the 90 minutes of match days.

“With my experience will bring lot to the team, especially with helping the youngsters, by advising them to work hard," he explained.

"It’s just for me to motivate them, make them believe that they can do better with their careers."

In terms of ambitions for the 2021/ 22 campaign, Ndengane believes the Team of Choice should be targeting a solid position in the league and also eyeing some cup glory:

“We need to finish in good position in the league, and with some hard work hopefully lift some [cup] silverware,” he concluded.
