TEAM OF CHOICE WELCOME TWO NEW GOALKEEPERS ON BOARD
5 August 2021

In Tato Lesoma and Renaldo Leaner, Maritzburg United have signed two promising young shot-stoppers hungry to make their mark in the PSL.
The pair follow on from the signing of another goalkeeper, Brylon Petersen, who arrived from Kaizer Chiefs to join Marcel Engelhardt in the goalkeeping department, giving the Team of Choice’s technical team some excellent depth to work with.
Originally from Johannesburg, Lesoma has previously been on the books of University of Pretoria and SuperSport United. As a youngster, he enjoyed watching Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Rowen Fernandez in action and is thrilled to now have the chance to work with the former Bafana Bafana custodian.
“I’m very excited to be part of the team this season and I look forward to working hard and giving my all on the pitch,” said Lesoma, who listed ‘shot-stopping and one-on-one’s’ as his strong points.
“Coach Rowen is someone who I grew up watching back in his days at Kaizer Chiefs, so it’s exciting to work with someone I grew up watching and I’m also looking forward to working with coach Ernst,” he continued.
“I’m settling in well, it’s a very professionally run club, it helps that I know some of the guys back from my time at SuperSport, and some of the guys I played against at youth level, great environment to be around.”
Renaldo Leaner makes the move up from Cape Town, having been part of the Cape Town Spurs (previously known as Ajax Cape Town) setup.
“It feels wonderful to be here, for me it’s something new to be away from home,” Renaldo stated.
“I’m more like a ball-playing keeper, because in our development at Ajax we played a lot from the back. I’m just here to give my all, lead from the back,” he continued.
“Coach Ernst, he’s great, the way he’s doing sessions, based on playing football, a football minded coach. I’m looking forward also to working on technique with coach Rowen this season”.
