HLONGWANE REVEALS HIS ASPIRATIONS WITH MARITZBURG UNITED
16 August 2021
Lifa Hlongwane, one of six new signings at Maritzburg United, is determined to have a fruitful 2021/ 22 campaign with the Team of Choice.
The 27-year-old last played for Black Leopards and also previously had spells with National First Division outfits Jomo Cosmos as well Royal Eagles. Having played for Eagles will make Hlongwane's transition to Maritzburg even easier, as he explains:
"It feels great working under coach Ernst Middendorp, I am learning a lot from him and feeling great to be here," Lifa said.
“I’m happy to be back in Pietermaritzburg - it’s not my first time here, I was here before with Royal Eagles, now Royal AM, playing in the First Division, so I’m familiar with the city.”
Hlongwane has operated both as left-sided attacker and as a striker, and is keen to contribute as much as he can to the Team of Choice's 'Goals For' tally this season.
“As an attacker I have to create and score goals for the team, so I’m here to add value in that respect," he said.
“Looking at the players, the energy the new guys are bringing, I think we should compete for the top eight."
Lifa has already made his presence felt in a big way after contributing a hat-trick of assists in our 5-1 victory over Royal AM in the KZN Premiers Cup the weekend before last.
