MARITZBURG KEEN TO BUILD AGAINST GALLANTS
21 September 2021

Maritzburg United will be hoping to build on their first victory of the DStv Premiership season when they welcome basement club Marumo Gallants to the Harry Gwala Stadium on Wednesday.
The Team of Choice bounced back from back-to-back defeats in the opening two rounds of the campaign by overcoming Baroka FC on the road in round three and that has now given them a base to work from.
"We've done a lot of hard work in the background for the past two months, so getting that first win felt extremely rewarding," assistant coach Maahier Davids said. "It was important to build the confidence and to build some momentum going forward as well.
"Hopefully we can use it as a stepping stone for the next games to come."
The three points gained from that result got them off the mark and has left them in 13th position. Their opponents Marumo, who took over the status of Tshakuma Tsha Madzivhandila during the closed season, have one draw from their first two games thus far and coach Maahier is expecting a tough battle.

"I've seen their games and analysed them," he said. "They've got really good individuals and can mix it up. We have to be prepared for a game, let's say a bit of chaos,
"I think they thrive in that environment, but we have to stick to our game plan, stay calm and structured. If we play the same way we did in Polokwane, I'm sure we can get a positive result."
The Maritzburg coach also urged his players to put whatever has happened so far this season behind them and focus solely on the task at hand in round four.

"We can't look back, we have to look forward," he added. "Next is a home game where we have to try and pick up points. Taking that confidence from the last game will be important.
"The first win would also have given the new players that taste of victory and for a guy like Richard Zumah, who scored his first goal in South Africa, and just in general the clean sheet...the team had a good trip going away from home and coming back from home with the three points, we couldn't have asked for more.
"We worked hard on fixing what we didn't do well. Yes we got the result and were happy with the fight, but there are always things to improve on and those are the things we worked on for the past 11 days.
