MARITZBURG UNITED CELEBRATE CITY LANDMARKS IN NEW CAMPAIGN
20 August 2021
KwaZulu-Natal’s only capital club Maritzburg United will launch their new social media campaign for the 2021/22 season – one that highlights all the landmarks of the city of Pietermaritzburg – when they play their opening fixture on Saturday.
The focus for the new term will be on reinforcing our affiliation with the KwaZulu-Natal capital with a new look and feel on the Team of Choice channels that aims to carry the brand to a new level.
The Msunduzi Municipality, which the city falls under, was the first in South Africa to financially back a Premier Soccer League (PSL) club during their partnership from 2015 to 2020. Their return on investment during that six-year period was immense as the club proudly reached two cup finals, finished in the top eight three times and boasted the highest crowd attendances in the country.
During this period, some of the country’s most promising young players were harvested in Pietermaritzburg and the surrounding areas.
“We are extremely proud to be based here in Pietermaritzburg and we want to celebrate that with our famous #BlueArmy and all our stakeholders,” Maritzburg’s Chief Executive Officer, Younus Kadodia, said.
“Our media output will look to encapsulate this pride, rich history and traditions that moulded this great town and football club together.
“The new look will provide a sense of tangible inclusion for the locals to grasp onto and fall even deeper in love with the Team of Choice.”
Over the last few years, Maritzburg United was also privileged to have joined hands with the biggest shopping centre in the region – the Liberty Midlands Mall – and established strong relations with Umgeni Water.
Now as part of latest campaign, landmarks such as the city hall, the courthouse and the post office, to name a few, will all be highlighted and celebrated through the upcoming season.
A bold colour scheme which has been carefully selected in line with the Club’s branding has allowed us to create graphics that maintain our look and feel but at the same time grab the consumer’s attention with unique artwork interconnection between a South African town and a Football Club – something rarely seen in the country.
“Pietermaritzburg is the capital of KZN, the second biggest in terms of population and one of the premier cities in the country,” Kadodia added.
“It caters for every race and age group with diverse opportunities for everyone. Being the only professional football club based here is really unique. The city is also home to some world-famous events such as the Comrades Marathon, the Dusi Canoe Marathon and is in an area that breeds talent across the sporting spectrum. Maritzburg United adds to this flavour and we want to celebrate our association as the Team and City of Choice.
“As the only professional club and a brand ambassador of the city, the club will also be embarking on several key strategic partnerships with local partners to further enhance the image and profile of the city.”
Maritzburg play their opening match of 2021/22 against Lamontville Golden Arrows in Durban on Saturday.
