TEAM OF CHOICE STUN MARUMO GALLANTS WITH LAST GASP VICTORY

A sensational late winner from Amadou Soukouna earned Maritzburg United a 1-0 win over Marumo Gallants in a DStv Premiership match at the Harry Gwala Stadium on Wednesday evening.
In an evenly-balanced game, the France-born Soukouna struck in the 91st minute to secure a second consecutive league victory for Ernst Middendorp’s side.
The first half was a tight affair, in which neither side were able to fashion clearcut chances.
The Team of Choice did have one decent opportunity, in the 33rd minute - after winning the ball in midfield, Daylon Claasen played in Rowan Human, but after pulling the trigger his shot was blocked by visiting defender Ayanda Nkili.
Home keeper Marcel Engelhard was given work to do a couple of minutes later and he was up to the task as he got down sharply to keep out a cross-cum-shot from Selimpilo Ngema.
There was another opportunity for Maritzburg when on the stroke of half-time Alfred Ndengane flicked on a Ryan Rae long throw in to Claasen, whose volley was blocked away for a corner.
Engelhard was called into action again 12 minutes into the second half and he did brilliantly to block Katlego Otladisa’s shot with his foot, the Marumo Gallants forward having gone clean in on goal.
There was a let-off for United skipper Alfred Ndengane with 12 minutes to go - after he ceded possession to Gallants striker Sede Junior Dion, the Botswana marksman placed his parting shot inches wide of the upright.
Two minutes later there was another chance for the Limpopo side; this time Thabo Mnyamane fired a half volley into the side-netting from a tight angle on the right.
It was then Maritzburg's turn to attack - a great run down the wing from Brandon Theron ended with a super cross into the box, but Lelethu Skelm was denied Gallants keeper Washington Arubi.
From a long throw-in in the 82nd minute from Ryan Rae, Ndengane flicked the ball goalwards and towards Skelm, who just failed to get a decisive touch as the ball flashed past him.
The Team of Choice gained momentum as the match went into the final moments and one minute into added time they had the winner as Soukouna turned on the edge of the area and blazed a beautiful effort into the top corner.
