BIRDS SNATCH LATE EQUALISER IN 1-1 DRAW

Maritzburg United had been on track for a win over Swallows FC only for the hosts to score in the 88th minute at the Dobsonville Stadium in Saturday afternoon’s DStv Premiership encounter.
Things had been looking good for coach Ernst Middendorp’s charges after Bongokuhle Hlongwane had netted just before the interval, only to concede late on.
In a lively start to the game by both sides, Maritzburg keeper Marcel Engelhardt had the first save to make when he comfortably kept out Muwowo's 10th minute effort.
The deadlock was broken in the 45th minute when Hlongwane headed in from Rowan Human’s corner.
The second half was largely about United maintaining their focus and defending solidly as the Birds pushed for an equaliser.
That included a 75th minute save from Engelhardt.
However, there was late disappointment for the Team of Choice when Yagan Sasman netted an equaliser two minutes before the end of regulation time.
Next up for United are Cape Town City, in the Mother City on Tuesday evening, 7 December.
