13 February, 2022
There will be no love lost when Maritzburg United squares off against Lamontville Golden Arrows in the KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) derby at Harry Gwala Stadium on Friday night.
The DStv Premiership match will kickoff at 19h30 and it is live on SuperSport PSL (channel 202).
Experienced defender, Alfred Ndengane has expressed that they are oozing with confidence after getting better of SuperSport United 2-1 in the previous DStv Premiership tussle.
"Our preparations have gone well. We are ready to play against Arrows. It's not going to be an easy game because it's a derby. A derby demands you to work extra hard," he elaborated.
Maritzburg United are currently occupying 12th place on the log with 18 points from 19 league matches while Arrows are lying 10th place with 22 points after 18 league matches.
The Durban side emerged as victors when these two sides met in the first round.
"Arrows is club that likes to play. It's not easy to play against them because they are a difficult team to play against. We lost 2-1 against them in the first round. It was a very difficult game and we are also expecting another difficult one on Friday." Ndengane explained.
The 35-year-old is aging like a fine wine. Ndengane rose to prominence back in 2007 and has been in the elite league for 15 years. He explained the secret behind his accomplishments and longevity.
"It came as a surprise to me because I was not counting - only to find out from my agent and people at home to tell me after they counted. I was also shocked when I heard about it. But I'm really happy because not every player can reach this level." he smiled.
Ndengane offered some words of advice to the young and upcoming footballers.
"There's no secret. It's just hard work each and every time when you are playing - not only in the match days but also during training sessions. Be disciplined and listen to the coaches. If they can do that, I'm sure they stay longer." Ndengane concluded.
