"We had an opportunity to analyze the opponents in their last two games, one against AmaZulu FC and the Nedbank Cup semi final they played against Sundowns recently," said Maritzburg United head coach Ernst Middendorp.
Royal AM suffered a 2-1 defeat to Sundowns in the Nedbank Cup on Saturday.
"We're expecting some changes from them, but all we need to do is to focus on our job." Middendorp stated.
Maritzburg United are occupying 14th place on the log with 24 points from 26 matches.
"We're in a very difficult situation, everyone is aware of that. We need points and we definitely have to put the right attitude and fighting spirit into this game from the begging until the final whistle," the coach elaborated.
"In our last game in Nelspruit against TS Galaxy, we played very well and did exactly what we planned before the match. But unfortunately, we didn't get the results we were looking for," he added.
The Team of Choice lost 1-0 to AmaZulu before playing a 1-1 draw against TS Galaxy in the last two league matches.
Even though the club did not get the positive results, but the team's performance was exceptional and it's something the team is working to build on according to coach Midderndop.
"The last two games were different. We started them on the front foot and I hope that we do the same, be more active than the opponents of which that's something we are trying to put in our game against Royal AM on Wednesday evening." Coach Middendorp explained.
The German also revealed the players' availability ahead of this crucial encounter.
"Lungelo Bhengu and Phumlani Ntshangase have injuries and they will be out for the rest of the season. Other than that, everyone is available for selection."
Royal AM emerged as victors by 2-1 when these two clubs met in the first round.
