MARITZBURG BEAT BAROKA IN FINAL HOME GAME OF 2021/ 2022 SEASON
21 May, 2022
Maritzburg United signed off in front of home fans with a 1-0 DStv Premiership win over Baroka FC at the Harry Gwala Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
It was the Team of Choice's penultimate game this season - they face Orlando Pirates in Soweto on Tuesday in the final action.
Against Baroka, United were on the front foot early as Keagan Ritchie's seventh minute shot outside the box flew over, Ritchie then sending in a cross for Friday Samu nine minutes later, but the striker failed to trouble the visiting keeper.
Tawanda Macheke went close for the Team of Choice in the 23rd minute and then Samu had the ball in the net five minutes before he interval - only to have it ruled offsides.
Moments after the restart and Macheke was unlucky to see his header fly into the crossbar.
The breakthrough for Maritzburg came in the 55th minute when central defender Clayton Daniels popped up to score.
The KwaZulu-Natal capital city side were able to effectively manage the game after that to close out victory.
