TEAM OF CHOICE LOSE TO KAIZER CHIEFS

Maritzburg United went down 3-0 to Kaizer Chiefs in a DStv Premiership encounter at the FNB Stadium on Tuesday evening.
Maritzburg suffered an early setback in Soweto when Ashley du Preez prodded the ball home from close range after a swift counter-attack in the fourth minute.
With Bongani Sam doing some sterling work down the left flank, the Team of Choice had just begun to play themselves back into the match when Amakhosi struck again, Keagan Dolly scoring in the 24th minute after goalkeeper King Ndlovu had been left exposed by an under-hit back-pass.
Maritzburg picked themselves up again and created some good chances around the half hour mark but it would not fall for them in front of goal as Tawanda Macheke headed over from Keagan Ritchie's corner kick before Friday Samu blasted a thunderous volley against the crossbar from 25 metres out.
There was also an opportunity for Samu when a Ritchie corner was deflected his way in the 42nd minute, but the Zambian steered a sharp chance marginally wide.
After the restart, Ritchie tested Bruce Bvuma with a crisp free-kick, the Chiefs keeper up to the task with a diving save.
The Team of Choice worked hard to win possession and take charge in the second stanza, keeping the pressure on Amakhosi.
United also created a series of openings, but were unable to further test Bvuma.
And instead of getting back into the game, Maritzburg’s hopes were ended when Mduduzi Shabalala converted a Khama Billiat cross late in the game to seal the hosts’ victory.
Maritzburg now look forward to Friday night’s match against Swallows FC at the Harry Gwala Stadium.
