Maritzburg battled hard for a point in Saturday's 0-0 DStv Premiership draw with on-form KwaZulu-Natal neighbours Richards Bay at the King Zwelithini Stadium.
In the first half it was Richards Bay who had the better of the chances and they were close to scoring through Somila Ntsundwana in the 17th minute while Maritzburg keeper Anye Derick Fru did brilliantly to tip over a 41st minute effort from the hosts.
Maritzburg's best chance of the opening half came in the 31st minute, but Amadou Soukouna was unable to keep his shot on target.
After Friday Samu had a shot saved, it was also Soukouna who had the chance to score for the Team of Choice in the second half as he went in on goal on the hour mark, but the Frenchman shot narrowly wide.
The closing stages of the match brought some riveting end-to-end action as Maritzburg defended resolutely but just could not find the final touch in front of their opponents' goal.
