BRAVE TEAM OF CHOICE SNATCH LAST-GASP DRAW

Maritzburg United scored in added time to claim a 1-1 derby draw against Richards Bay in a DStv Premiership encounter played at a packed Harry Gwala Stadium on Friday night.
The Team of Choice had made a bright start to the game and created a succession of goal-scoring chances as the first half wore on.
That included a ninth minute effort from Brandon Theron which saw his low shot blocked on the line, following a great cross from Wayde Jooste – who provided Maritzburg with a very lively wide attacking option.
Friday Samu and Genino Palace also had a couple of chances each for Maritzburg, but couldn’t make it count.
At the other end, Richards Bay sounded a warning when they hit the bar after a rare attack and it was soon alter that the visitors opening the scoring through Sanele Barns after a fast counter in the 37th minute.
The Team of Choice came out fighting after the interval and managed to create some openings, but again the end-product eluded the hosts as Samu had a header saved before Alfred Ndengane’s shot was deflected wide of the target.
The match remained evenly balanced as the half unwinded, the sides taking turns to attack.
Maritzburg continued to fight with all they had and they were rewarded in the 92nd minute when the impressive Theron, who had been industrious all night, whipped in another fantastic cross, this one headed home by Palace.
United went in search of the winner and had a couple of promising moments but just couldn’t fashion any final clear-cut chances.
