Maritzburg United put in a gutsy performance to secure a 1-0 DStv Premiership win over Stellenbosch FC at the Harry Gwala Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
After home keeper Renaldo Leaner had made a great save to deny Iqraam Rayners from scoring on the half hour mark, United took the lead through Amadou Soukouna.
It was a brilliant strike from the Frenchman, his eighth of the season, as he controlled Rowan Human's flick, beat a man by pulling the ball back through his own legs and then sent the keeper the wrong way with a composed finish. 1-0 to Maritzburg on 40 minutes.
The Team of Choice had almost had a second goal when Stellenbosch managed to clear off their line from a goalmouth scramble on the hour.
The KwaZulu Capital city side did well to limit the Cape team's chances for the remainder of the game as they dug deep and maintained focus to claim the crucial three points.
Maritzburg united now head to Tshwane to take on Mamelodi Sundowns on Tuesday night in round 30 of the DStv Premiership.
