It is with great sadness that we have learnt of the passing of former Maritzburg United head coach Clive Barker.
Coach Clive had two stints with the Team of Choice - his first stay at the club, was in 2003 when the club was relaunched.
In 2015, 'The Dog' as he was affectionately known, made a return to the Midlands outfit. Maritzburg United chairman Farook Kadodia thanked the 1996 Africa Cup of Nations winning coach for his services.
"He was a coach who will always be remembered fondly at the Pietermaritzburg club," says theTeam of Choice chairman.
"It's with great sadness that we heard of coach Clive Barker's passing today. Our sincere condolences go out to his family, friends, colleagues and those players whose lives Clive touched," Kadodia stated.
He continued and said “Clive has left a career legacy, in his short stay during his second stint at the club he had an indelible impact as he mentored our current head Coach Fadlu Davids who was his assistant in the 2015/2016 season.
"A gentleman of the game, who has done a lot for South African club football as well as the country as he was the first Bafana Bafana coach to win the 1996 Cup of Nations and oversaw the 1998 World Cup qualification, he will be sorely missed,” Kadodia concluded.
